After discussing the MareFrame project’s status and road-map during the 2nd Annual Meeting in Constanta, Romania, the project partners attended the Joint Stakeholder Meeting organized together with the FP7 Perseus Project.
The tools developed in the frame of the two projects were presented and discussed with stakeholders representing decision-makers at international, national and local level, fishery organizations, control authorities, research and academia in Romania and Bulgaria (North Western Black Sea).

Focus was put on the collaboration between science and policy/industry, by implementing the tools and models created by the Perseus and MareFrame consortia: Adaptive Marine Policy Toolbox, Early Warning Management Tool for Oil Spills, Marine Litter Watch App, Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) in the Mediterranean, Modern Concept of Research Vessel, Decision Support Frameworks and Bayesian Belief Nets, with emphasis to the specific Black Sea turbot case study.

Dr. Anna Kristín Daníelsdóttir, MareFrame coordinator: “The joint meeting was a great opportunity to introduce the outcomes of both projects. For us in MareFrame, halfway in the project, it was valuable to learn from all the good work that has been conducted in the PERSEUS project as the project has created valuable resources that all of us can utilize and build on. Additionally, meeting the Black Sea stakeholders and learn about their main concerns and outcome targets for the management of their fisheries, was important for the future work of MareFrame.

Dr. Vangelis Papathanassiou, Perseus coordinator: “This has been a very useful opportunity of having together the expertise on both projects, whose ultimate aims are to provide tools for the stakeholders directly involved in activities related to the marine environment.

Mr. Marian Chiriac, president of the Romanian Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture: “As representative of policy makers and control authorities, I believe that scientific advice is highly important. However, it is equally important to transfer this knowledge in an understandable manner, to be actually applied by end-user, in this case fishermen.
